Q & A with filming / editing mini workshop with cinematographer Hector Torra in Chania Crete, Greece.

lifestyle My journal

A while back I had the chance to attend a workshop that helped change my perspective on some core personal and professional aspects in my photography.

Best of all I had a chance to make some good friends that I now also call part of my network. One of them is Hector Torra. A cinematographer from Spain with a spirit and humor similar to myself.

Hector and his girlfriend, the lovely Carolina came to Crete to visit the island and spend some time together. While here we had a chance to talk shop and try to find ways to potentially work together. In my opinion it is just a matter of time.

In the mean while I asked Hector to share some of the ways he works in shooting, editing and customer service. He was more than happy to do so.

We called it a Q & A session with a mini shooting / editing part in the end.

The fresh videographers that attended were mostly from my existing local network in hope of expanding knowledge and to take in some new ideas.

When working in a single market area you can tend to become stale and monotonous. There are many ways to break the mold and stay away from this. One of them is to have an open mind and allow others ideas to blend in with yours.

And that is exactly what Hector did for us. And we thank him for that.

I would like to thank Alcanea Boutique Hotel in the Old Harbor of Chania (A member of Aria Hotels) for their hospitality.

I would also like to thank our couple (Alexandra & Aristomenis) for the filming portion.

And of course to everyone who participated and understood the benefits of such a session.

Finally here is the video that was created during the session:

Some of the best rising wedding photographers in the world
When the highly respected list of rising photographers of Rangefinder Magazine came out, I was stunned and ecstatic to see familiar names on the list. Well for this bunch of photographers it is obvious that the world has spoken and stated that they are ahead of their game and leading the way to new and exciting places. Photographers such as Pablo Beglez, Lukas Piatek, Rafal Bojar, Daniel Alonso Beyond the simple acquaintance, some of them were more than happy to share their story, or “secrets” of trade and even have a beer or two.Does this make me a better photographer?No..! But I am glad to know that I am on to something good. Just ...

Couples portrait session from the beach up to the mountains of Chania Crete, Greece
One of the magnificent beauties of Crete is that one minute you can be sunbathed by the Mediterranean Sea and within a 20-30min drive you can be in a mountainous range enjoying a walk in the woods. And you can then cuddle by a fireplace with a home cooked meal.   This is how I spent the day with Natasa and George. Both working hard during the Summer season at Alcanea Boutique Hotel and now, in the off season, enjoy the nature Crete has to offer.   By the water we even found a boat named George with the sun beating down on us. Despite being mid December. The water reflected the sunrays and reminded us of the Summer that w ...

Aromas, flavors, bazars and history around Istanbul Turkey (Part 1)
A couple of flights away from Chania, Crete Greece we ended up in Sultanahmet Istanbul. As you fly in over Istanbul, you are reminded that this is a city of over 12 million people. In search of a short trip near Chania, my family and I decided to spend a few days exploring the wonders and as much history as possible. Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Galata tower, Taksim square just to name a few. This is my “warm up” post before I manage to edit and share some more of the images I captured during our trip. Stand by for part 2 and thanks for visiting.
