So you have just booked your perfect trip to Greece and are planning on visiting the island of Crete with your family. Perhaps the city of Agios Nicholas on the Eastern part of the island, or Heraklion in the center or the picturesque Rethymno with its Fotezza fortress and old town.
Or better yet the city of Chania in Western Crete with the stunning Venetian harbor and trademark lighthouse.
If this is the case, then you should arrange for a family photo shoot.
Personally, I am based in the Chania and mostly work in this area and in some cases I will go to Rethymno for family photo shoots.
Unlike longer sessions such as weddings or commercial projects family sessions tend to run between 1-2 hours the longest.
It usually depends on the size of the group or the age of the family members.
Babies are challenging to move around and get tired easy and the elderly sometimes don’t like distances or the Summer heat.
When choosing a location, I guide people to trademark scenery such as Chanias Venetian harbor or a near by beach without too many people. Keep in mind that isn’t easy to achieve in the Summer with all the tourists.
Sometimes a nice villa where families are staying works or a nearby quaint Cretan village.
Outfits have to be comfortable, yet not too casual. I also hint people not to wear “loud” colors and big lettering.
Your pictures should be made to last in time. Unless you are going for a specific look.
Most important I try to make my family photo shoots fun, eventful with a twist of history and culture.
